please join us…
Join us at the inaugural Oakland Peace Festival at the Oakland Peace Center for a celebration of all that is Oakland and peaceful through music, art, writing, food, guest speakers, and community building. All are welcome, and this is a kid-friendly event. Schedule to be posted soon.
The event will take place on three Saturdays: July 27 (theme: Equity), August 24 (theme: Justice), and will culminate on September 21 (theme: Peace), which is International Day of Peace. There will be youth and children’s programming, which will include face painting, tiny book making, arts and crafts, and puppets. Food trucks, art vendors, beer, wine, and coffee will be present in the parking lot just off of Fairmount Avenue. The indoor programming will take place in the Sanctuary: poets, a speaker series on peace building in community with a different speaker each event, and live music by a number of local musicians.
Lanterns will be hung throughout the sanctuary as part of a three-month celebration of lights and peace and separate lanterns will be available for folks to hang with individually written messages of peace on them for a small donation to the Oakland Peace Center.
Outdoor programming is free. There will be a suggested donation for indoor programming, which will include two admissions and two drink tickets redeemable at any of the parking lot vendors. We welcome anyone who can afford to purchase two or more tickets to pay for others to attend who otherwise may not be able to.
This event is organized by Nomadic Press with support from a large and loving community, both old and new. All proceeds will go toward the production of this, and future, festivals.
