“Arisa White’s You’re the Most Beautiful Thing That Happened is a guide to learning our freedoms . . . . You will probably have to reconfigure your definition of beauty after you read this book.” – Willie Perdomo, poet

Join us for a night of poetry, music, and tarot card readings in celebration of the release of Arisa White’s newest collection, You’re the Most Beautiful Thing That Happened (Augury Books). Featuring guest readers MK Chavez and J. K. Fowler, tarot readings by Meg Hertz, and musical performance by Azuah.

You’re the Most Beautiful Thing That Happened takes its title from words used internationally as hate speech against gays and lesbians, reworking, re-envisioning, and re-embodying language as a conduit for art, love, and understanding. Cultural critic Roxane Gay calls You’re the Most Beautiful Thing That Happened “an assured and memorable book of poetry that provokes thought as much as it provokes a depth of feeling.” The poetry reading will be followed by a Q&A with Arisa White and then a book signing. Light refreshments will be served. Open to the public, and there will be a sliding scale of $5-10 at the door, though no one will be turned away for lack of funds.
