Join us for a very special evening of readings by Youth Speaks co-founder Paul S. Flores and Freddy Gutierrez. Music by the ever-so-talented TBD.
PAUL S. FLORES is a published poet, performance artist, playwright, and well known spoken word artist. He was raised in Chula Vista, CA, and spent much of his youth in Tijuana, Mexico. Flores’ PEN-award-winning novel ALONG THE BORDER LIES reflects this experience. Flores' work explores the intersection of ubran culture, Hip Hop, and transitional identities. His spoken word poem, “BROWN DREAMS” from Def Poetry Jam on HBO continues to inform and influence young people all over the United States.
FREDDY GUTIERREZ new collection of poems from Nomadic Press is titled NUEVA CUENTA. His poems illuminate parallels between a personal sense of indigenized identity and the legacy of colonialism via the California Mission System and its impact on the local ecology.
Donations will be called for throughout the night, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds.
Wine and Red Bay coffee will be available.
Parking: Street parking is usually available, but the easiest thing to do is to park at the Walgreens just a block away. Here is a handy map (you should see Nomadic Press on there): https://goo.gl/maps/SgaHMhV88MA2
