Join us for an Uptown Fridays reading you won't forget, featuring readings by Robert Andrew Perez and Ploi Pirapokin and music by Monica Hastings Smith. 

Suggested donations of $5-25 collected at the door, but no one turned away for lack of funds. 

Red wine and Red Bay coffee will be available. 

Information about performers:

Robert Andrew Perez is a poet living in Berkeley. He is an associate editor & book designer for speCt!, an artbook press that prints small-batch single-author chapbooks & the magazine Oar out in Oakland, where he also curates readings. Born in Manila & raised in the sprawling outeredges of Los Angeles County, he moved to the Bay Area to receive his BA from Berkeley & MFA from Saint Mary's College of California, where he occasionally teaches. He is an alum of the Lambda Literary fellowship & a recipient of the Lannan Literary Award for poetry. His poetry has appeared in print & online in publications such as DIAGRAM, The Awl, The Laurel Review, Eleven-Eleven & The Cortland Review & has featured recently in Public Pool and Vinyl. His first collection, the field, was published with Omnidawn. This year he is a guest editor for The Elephants and he will teach a class on the poetics of voice through Omnidawn's workshop series. He is currently writing a movie about a divorce and wine tasting; it's a comedy called Stone Fruit.

Ploi Pirapokin was born in Thailand and raised in Hong Kong. Her work is  featured in, Apogee Journal, the Bellingham Review, Fiction International, the Griffith Review and more. She has received fellowships from the Radgale Foundation, the Anderson Center, the Brush Creek Foundation, Willapa Bay AIR, Kundiman and others. She holds an MFA in Fiction from San Francisco State University and has taught there in the creative writing department and at the Emerging Writers Institute at Brown University. 

Monica Hastings-Smith is a solo performer and band member serving as a songwriter, arranger, rhythm guitarist, lead singer, percussionist and all around merry-maker. Loyal to community, she consistently shows up in the streets, at festivals, on stage, in classrooms, in the parks, at celebrations to make music, joy and healing vibrations.
