Join us for a night of sensational poetry and sound healing with Nick Johnson and music by Totem Pulse.
Donations will be kindly requested, though no one will be turned away for lack of funds.
nick johnson hails form the brackish Chesapeake Bay but now calls Oakland home. He’s good at telling long-winded stories, making spicy curries, Instagraming, and drinking whiskey; typically in that order, but not always. You may know him as a poet, playwright, and the host of the monthly MFA Mixer 2.0 Reading Series.
His work has appeared in Black Renaissance Noire, Brilliant Corners, The Cincinnati Review, Metazen, sPARKLE & bLINK, the anthology Conversations at the Wartime Café: A Decade of War, and other fine places.
Conceived in the misty depths of San Francisco, Totem Pulse is a multi-faceted trio consisting of Chelsea Kirby, and Jack Sundquist, and James Frier. With their bold new approach to tribal electronic, they fuse a blend of hip-hop, reggae, and world music tinged with both organic and synthetic sounds. Warm vocals, dominant bass, alluring synthesizer fused with live percussion drive their addictive and unforgettable melodies.

There is ample street parking, but just to make it easy, there is an O'Reilly Auto Parts/Walgreens on the corner of Fruitvale and Foothill with a huge parking lot. Here's a Google Map link: https://www.google.com/maps/place/O'Reilly+Auto+Partsfirstname.lastname@example.org,-122.233008,14z/data=!4m5!1m2!2m1!1so+reilly+auto+parts+near+Foothill+Blvd,+Oakland,+CA!3m1!1s0x0000000000000000:0xa74c9fbc2152bd68
Nomadic Press should show up on that map as well. We are just in between Austin and Rutherford on Foothill.
Hope to see you soon!
